As I woke up one morning, this conversation was on my heart as I was praying. I know in reality person A would have more to say and maybe put up more of a debate. Though for purpose to show the love of God and His heart. I made person B speak more. May this conversation help people speak to unbelievers particularly in love. Our duty is not to prove God but show His love and be loving to others. As we love them we need to lead to the truth. The real reason this type of conversation can go in circles. You never know how a simple question or statement could lead to divine inspiration and someone’s salvation.
Believers be aware that having this conversations shouldn’t waver your own faith. If you feel you would be tossed by someone’s else statements and think God is not real. Then wait to have conversations such as these. There will be times we need to have conversations about creation and the existence of God. Listen to the Holy Spirit as you have these conversations. Remember less is always more.
For most Person A won’t change their standpoint, so why should Person B be influenced to change. Once you are changed stand firm in that truth in which you believe!
Picture Person A walking up to Person B. There has been some initial contact between the two. Person A knows Person B is a Christian. After to being acquainted in the past. Person A won’t always be so blunt in a statement but for practical purposes this is how it starts.
Conversation beings here
Person A: “Prove God exists and show Him to me.”
Person B: “The real question is do you actually want to see Him?”
A: Yes, show me so I can see proof.
B: “Secondly, you can not prove God exists. The proof is His love but we have to choose to see it for ourselves. You see, it is what you really want to see when you actually see. This is where Faith comes in the picture. God is love and He is a faithful God. Yet, we can only see Him by faith.”
A: “You seem so sure in your words in which you say. I still need proof He exists. Show me something now.”
B: “Once you chose to see God what will happen is you won’t stop seeing Him. God is everywhere at all times and is eternally present among us. You can look at a tree. You might say it came from the photosynthesis of the sun and soil of the earth. I say it comes from God who made the sun and the earth. Then you would say, How did God create the Sun? Just because you read a verse in a book? That’s the thing when it comes to faith. You can read any book but if You don’t trust what it is saying then it’s just empty words until you chose to believe what is said in the book is when it comes to life. People typically believe in what they can see but faith is believing without seeing. Faith is seeing beyond what you actually are looking at.”
A: “It seems you have answered these questions before. I appreciate what you say but show me still that God is real.”
B: “Let’s take something you look at everyday, you. You are a human. Where do humans come from? Another human, our mother. Well we can keep going all the way to the beginning of the first woman and where did she come from? Adam, and where did Adam come from, God. Now, again you will still say, you just say that because you read it in a book. That is the response to each non believer. That’s why there is always a “faith factor” no matter what you look at! There will have to be faith in what you read. Which comes from an internal awakening and a choice to chose to see what you are reading! Now, if God did not create man. Then where did man come from? Animals? Did mankind come another kind? Have we seen proof of other animals becoming different kinds in science? Even if that were so. Think about it. Take time to actually think for yourself and see what you are seeing.
B: How can you, perfectly designed in the most artistic manor of any creation doubt that God exists? The human body is so highly detailed and constructed that yes primates have similar characteristics but yet are a different kind. Now, let’s take it a step further. When you think of you, what comes to mind? Literally your mind and thought life. Maybe your emotions and personality. Most of the time when anyone thinks of themselves they don’t see their physical manifestation but their consciousness and conscience. The voice inside their head. This is the place where God lives and breathes in all the more sense of our reality. It is the moral decisions we make daily. It’s the choices we chose constantly. What is right? What is wrong? How do you know that doing that is right or doing this is wrong? Now, we are getting somewhere.
A: Finally proof that I have been asking for. So you are saying our consciousness and conscience proves God exists?
B: Lets try something else really quick. Lets say I gave you 5 dollars. What would you do?
A: I would keep it, but if you asked for it back I would pay you back 5 dollars.
B: I won’t ask for it back then.
A: Then I would keep it
B: So you made your decision to keep the 5 dollars given to you. Others would either not take it. Others would take it and pay the person back. Others would take it and actually pay if forward to where it didn’t actually benefit them but someone else. You see it’s your choice to chose what to do with something given to you, but with a moral compass we have an understanding of what to do when given 5 dollars.
A: Sure I can see that
B: Ok, now let’s make this even better. The 5 dollars I gave you. It’s yours now. I don’t want it back, but someone steals it from you. How would that make you feel?
A: I would be upset the fact someone took 5 dollars from me.
B: Yes, so would I because we know what. That stealing is....
A: Wrong
B: How do we know this? How do we know stealing is wrong? How about killing someone? How about something people do daily, lying and manipulating?
A: Because it’s just known
B: Yes, it’s known but by the mere fact that God told us that it’s wrong. If we were never told that stealing is wrong then we would continue stealing, but the tricky part is people still steal even when they know it’s wrong. I’ll explain that part soon to you.
A: Ah yes the Ten Commandments. Yet another verse you believe.
B: You see just by what you are saying in your tone my friend is the reason you won’t see. You are choosing to not see. Describe another word for me when people decide not to chose to see or do something.
A: Refuse
B: That’s exactly it. People refuse, which is a stiff arm. They chose to stay away and not to look even if there was proof even if it was right in front of them. Now, this is the struggle and the issue with everything that lies with this type of conversations. The issue where refusing and rebellious nature come from is sin.
A: So sin, sin proves God exists then?
B: In a way to answer your question the answer is yes, but God is a Holy God. He never sins. We do. The humans by design were to be perfect and are made in Gods imagine and likeness, other words His behavior and character. Which again it’s our behavior, attitude, and character we think about when someone talks about you. They will rarely speak on your physical characteristics, but your personality. They speak about your being, the you within you.
B: Sin is complicated to explain but sin is any evil desire. It has everything to do with being selfish, such as stealing or even just keeping the money for themselves. Now, I’m just saying that your choice with the 5 dollars was a selfish choice. Just pointing out that as humans we will choose to be selfish over being selfless. Sin is when people lie, manipulate, deceive, and kill to get what they want for themselves alone. Sin is also something where we know what to do but don’t do it. Or we do see something but refuse. Or we are told to do something such as “don’t eat of the fruit” yet we do it anyways and “eat it.” This is where sin comes in. Even when we know stealing is wrong as an example people will still steal. We have a sinful nature. And it’s sin that keeps us from seeing God. It is sin that makes us ask does God exist yet when we see proof the individual will still choose to not see it. Are you starting to get the picture? These conversations are circles, but there is a funnel out to something greater. God dealt with sin once and for all!
A: So your saying sin proves God exists and He dealt with it?
B: When we sin, an action of sin means sinner. Similar to steal and stealer. It’s the action part that came from a choice and a behavior. Sin is not just our intentional choices but our unintentional, kinda like a software system and in its routine flow it will go through this pattern. Well our pattern is to sin naturally hence sinful nature. Because God created you and me. The you that you think about. He loves you so much. Sin has a punishment and that is death. Not immediate death but death eternally, forever and ever. This death is a punishment and separation from our refusing to see God and His goodness all around us. This death is where you are no longer you. You are gone forever into the abyss, hades, hell. Now, even though sin separates us from God. He still did something about it.
A: Which is?
B: God became human himself. Just like you and me. God stood like you and me right here on this very soil that tree grew out of the ground. God breathed the air you breathed. The air He created for us to breathe. The creator of all the earth, heavens, and everything you see become the created. He became human and his name was Jesus. He walked on this earth and did mighty acts, which you can read in an amazing book. Jesus was tempted like you and me are today. He was tempted to compromise His character, to steal, sleep with woman, and the list goes on. Yet He did not sin. Not once. Then something terribly amazing happen.
A: What can be terribly amazing?
B: Well think about it. When you stand apart from everyone else you would get some attention even though He wasn’t looking for attention. His goal was redemption. Other religious leaders who thought they knew God and the law (right and wrong). They were consumed with sin, which made them envious and jealous. They chose to kill him.
A: Did Jesus do anything wrong to die? I mean someone who came to serve people and help people. Doesn’t seem they deserve the death penalty.
B: Yes, he didn’t deserve it yet it was Gods plan to do so. You see sin need a sacrifice to redeem what was lost. A human sacrifice but humans are not perfect and it had to be a perfect sacrifice, so God took it upon himself to restore creation. He came in the flesh as Jesus. He was nailed to the cross after hours or torture. He was hung on a cross for hours. Then he died. Three days later the amazing part happened. Jesus rose from the grave! He conquered death, the grave, and sin. Jesus took on sin and died for all of us sinners. Now all we have to do is accepting Jesus into our lives. You see God is also Spirit, so when we accept Him. God in the presence of the Holy Spirit comes in you. To help you with your decision making and no longer intentionally sin. Once you accept Jesus by faith! Not by want you see but what you believe. You will be saved, but you have to actually make that choice for yourself. Don’t take my word for it. You are the one who makes that decision. You will make that decision in your heart, which is the true you.
A: I want to accept Jesus as Lord. I didn’t realize I was choosing against Him. By pushing him away and refusing to see even though He is right in front of me.
B: Exactly, now you see
A: How do we do this? How do I accept? Is that it?
B: We are close we go to the book that people refuse to believe. You see the Scriptures tell and show all but people still choose to not see it. That’s ok, it takes time because sin and the enemy keep us from seeing.
A: The enemy?
B: That’s for another conversation. Let’s open the book of Romans and it reads: “But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. He will judge everyone according to what they have done.” Romans 2:5-6 NLT
“Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal? You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you commit adultery? You condemn idolatry, but do you use items stolen from pagan temples?
No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by the Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people.” Romans 2:21-22, 29 NLT
A: Ah I see what you are saying! The Bible even says people know stealing is wrong yet they still steal (Romans 2:21)
B: Let’s continue together: “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,” Romans 3:22-25 NLT
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 NLT
A: Oh so this is the part about Jesus and what He did!
B: Yes, let’s continue together: “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”” Romans 10:9-10, 13 NLT
B: We say this out loud for our own benefit. Making a declaration is sealing the deal. It makes us recognize and reaffirm that we made a decision and are committing to it. It doesn’t have to be perfect but what does need to happen is your heart and ready to say it. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Connect the you within you with the physical you. Say “Jesus I recognize I am a sinner and have sinned for a long time. Thank you for redeeming me because of your love for me. Thank you for dying for me on the cross. A punishment you didn’t deserve yet you died to free me. I accept you Jesus as Lord. I believe that your rose again from the grave three days later. I trust you in my heart and have faith you are real. Lead me for the rest of my life and show me how to live in affordance to your word. Thank you Lord! Amen.”
A: I said it and meant it with all my heart! Now what should I do?
B: Yes!!!! Now, continue to Love the Lord with all your heart. Now, go love your neighbor as yourself. And tell others about him as the Holy Spirit leads. Let’s stay in touch and I’ll help you battle the enemy by praying for you. And make sure you read that book that other people say isn’t true, but now it’s true to you. Read about Jesus and what He did and how he acted, the book of Matthew is a good start.
B: Lastly, being a follower of Christ is not easy. Like a marriage you are going to learn how selfish you are each day. Similar to your walk with God. You will continually see how selfish you are by nature but each time that selfishness emerges is an opportunity to surrender it to God! Give it to Him and allow Him to flow through you. Live a life of love, forgiveness, and faith.
May God bless anyone who reads this conversation.
