I love the quote from Spider-Man, “with great power comes great responsibility.” What does responsibility mean? It is defined as “a thing that one is required to do as part of a job, role, or legal obligation.” It also states “a moral obligation to behave correctly toward or in respect of.” This definition reveals two big areas. The job obligation of responsibilities we are aware of. Such as maintaining a business, partnerships, or day to day tasks. If we fail at our given responsibilities we will get fired. Sometimes that fear drives us to work hard or we know of the payment that we receive to work, so we are responsible and held accountable by higher level management.
The more important focus is on the other definition which is moral obligation of our behavior. As humans we can forget that there are consequences to our actions outside of our job. We are still held responsible and be held accountable to what we do. For example, Budweiser tells us to “Drink Responsibly.” If we were to go around be heavy drinkers and then potential drive. We put not just ourselves in harms way but others as well. Another example is the lottery which tells us to “Play Responsibly.” If we were to gamble excessively then it could lead us in a huge financial fallout and potential drive us to desperation with our actions. The idea is as long as we are responsible with drinking and gambling it would be alright, this is what the world says.
This pandemic has certainly gave us time to reflect and examine our lives. Life has cause and effects. Whatever we act on there are consequential outcome. Several people want to live without any consequences or responsibilities. Other individuals might want to be carefree or live freely. This can catch us in hole and we can slowly begin to fall into a deep pit.
I believe God would have a sign us well for us similar to Budweiser and the lottery. The sign would say “Live Responsibly.” We all have a moral obligation in life to live to a high standard. This is doing right to one another and loving others unconditionally. This also means not being immoral and jealous of others. When God speaks about immortality and jealousy, His aim is to help us get back on track. If we continue to be immoral or act rash. We will eventually lead to a sinful act that results in eternal punishment. In the end of our days we will be held accountable for everything we have done but more particular our lives over our jobs. We will be held to our moral obligation more.
Riches won’t help on the day of judgment, but right living can save you from death. Proverbs 11:4 NLT
“For we are each responsible for our own conduct.” Galatians 6:5 NLT
The most important call to actions is that we are responsible for our actions. The book of Romans describes sin and how it can control us to not be aware of what we do. This call of living responsibly is mainly towards people who are following Jesus. I know for me I had no idea of my actions until I started to reflect on my actions. My relationship with Christ has guided me to live responsibly.
A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. But what if the servant is evil and thinks, ‘My master won’t be back for a while,’ and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? The master will return unannounced and unexpected, and he will cut the servant to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 24:45-51 NLT
The whole point to the drink, play, and live responsibly is to help us stay on track. Not fall into a poor behavior pattern that would only harm ourselves more. God loves you so much and I know He would tell us to live responsibly. We can enjoy life and live an adventure, but be wise in the process. Constantly aware and alert of your behavior.
So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 1 Peter 1:14 NLT

The most effective way to live responsibly is to look to the one who is righteous. Follow Jesus to the best of your ability. Look to model His behavior and example in living. When you do that you will be living righteously yourself. Surrender to Him, repent, renew, and repeat daily. Live righteously to live responsibly each and everyday. This will be your guide to live and enjoy a satisfying life for the rest of your days.
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33 NLT
