Main Goal for Fitness

What is the main goal for fitness? Is it for 6 pack abs? A bikini body? The ability to be stronger and faster? These are not wrong answers nor wrong motives, but these motives won’t last forever. Eventually, you will lose enthusiasm with any external motivation. Especially, if the results take a while. It is important to be aware of our motives before beginning the process because they feed our motivation to keep going when the going gets tough.

There are two main reasons for fitness and training so we can perform at our highest level. One, to see progress through consistency from commitment. Numerous times people are set up for failure due to inconsistencies with a daily routine. Once we chose consistency then true progress begins. Consistency and commitment are interchangeable words. If you are consistent it means you are committed and if you are committed that means you are consistent. The second result is to find out what you are truly capable of. In other words we are built for grit. Grit means “courage and resolve; strength of character.” For example, on a run there comes a time when we get too exhausted to finish, so we must dig deep within ourselves for that extra effort to finish strong. That mindset helps us finish strong because we found more within ourselves to help us get through.

God desires those exact same principles towards Him. As we commit our actions to the Lord our plans will succeed (Pro 16:3). The more we commit to God daily the more consistent we will be and start to see gradual progress. God also desires us to know we are capable for more. The bible does not exactly use the word ‘grit’ but it is implied. Above it states that grit is strength of character. Romans 5:4 states “endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.” Numerous times God tells us to “be strong and courageous” and to “never be afraid.” He wants us to get a hold of the concept called grit. Lastly, we will realize there is more in us. That is Christ in us once we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Whatever we face and do Christ will help you through. There is way more in you than you ever knew.                 This same principle can be applied to your career and personal life. If you aim to apply commitment and grit you will see progress through the process. This process allows us to experience great joy because we feel we are finally making a difference. This kind of joy ultimately refers to the joy of the Lord. We are content and fully satisfied. This joy also gives us great strength.

And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and say, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!” –Nehemiah 8:10 NLT

Now, progress in career and personal life won’t happen as quickly as fitness, but you will see the same linear progression. God wants to grant you success in every aspect of your life, so commit to Him and be brave in Jesus name along the way. The next fitness challenge you take it be either a beach body program, group fitness class, or 5k training. Believe God to help you through. Then commit to it and grit through it.
