Year after year do you feel you keep choosing the same resolution? Time and time again you see the same subject matter appearing? Don’t you think it is time to face it and tackle it? I believe this year is your year, but it is good to know some insight. We all want to accomplish goals we speak about, but we all face the same road blocks. The road blocks of fear, doubt, the enemy of our self, passivity, laziness, and others. Excuses build up and we should know that an excuse is just self-inflicted abuse. It prevents us from performing. Imagine for a second that every year you were to accomplish the goals you speak about instead of just the same rollover goal year to year. It becomes like a bank and builds up overtime. It’s time to break through the barrier of timidity.
Over the years I have seen many people strive for a goal but see them give up. Seeing people set goals then give up or give in before even beginning bothers me. I see how that person was so close to finally getting over that roadblock. We are meant to excel in this life and not just coast.
Here is a problem: We say what we are going to do but never do it. This inflicts damage to our self when we do this.
“Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.” James 4:17 NLT
There are times we have the right intentions but have difficulty to act on them in a consistent way. We all have good intentions and want to do good, but we give up or give in. This issue has a deeper issue and that is sin. This issue is the condition of the human heart. This issue is sin within the human heart. It causes us deep down to only look out for ourselves and stalls our potential. People might appear good on the exterior but on the inside they have deep internal selfish agenda for themselves. I want to help people see their potential through Christ and transform into the real person they are meant to be. So many people give up or give in right when it was going to shift. People take themselves out before even starting. Others live on the fence staring at fear and think that fear is too great when there is hope to stare at instead. First, you must make the choice to be made new and seek guidance from a higher source of power to get you through. We must take on this issue head on with understanding of the Good News.
It is time to get God in the mix and tap into your true potential. We all want a New Year new me. This is possible when you give your life to Christ by knowing who He is. All things are made new! Before you get God in the mix you must make sure you are made right with God through understanding sin and how sin affects our desires and overall our destiny.
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
Sin is our imperfections, immorality, and overall wrongdoings (which we can both aware or unaware of). Overall, these sins cause us to stumble and keep us from breakthroughs. Mainly, these sins keep us from living life to the fullest. These sins dwell within our hearts and drive our motives to act for the wrong reasons. There is more to sin than we can comprehend, but even greater is God’s love for us. His love is beyond our comprehension but when we look to Christ, we get the picture. Our reasons for becoming fit for example might be for our looks, but if you dug deeper it could be approval seeking, pride, or self-centered. In the end, these sins make us feel dry and empty internally. Ultimately, sin leads to death and an eternal separation from God (the Creator who believes in you and desires to be with you) which is the bad news. The Good News is God loves you and believes in you. He sent His very own Son, Jesus Christ to the earth (Christmas- birth). Jesus lived a sinless life but faced sin just as we do and the temptations all around.
“For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize and understand our weaknesses and temptations, but One who has been tempted [knowing exactly how it feels to be human] in every respect as we are, yet without [committing any] sin.” Hebrews 4:15 AMP
Jesus knew exactly what it meant to be human. Then he took on our sin when he was nailed to the cross. He then was crucified on the cross and rose again three days later (Easter- death & resurrection). We call Him Lord because He rose again and took on the penalty of sin which is eternal death. Once you accept Jesus into your life you will have eternal life. Christ lived for you, died for you, and rose again taking on our sins. Jesus came to bring sin to an end, but sin can still entangle you up if you allow it even if you are made new. Our passivity and giving up will lead to death of our destiny here on earth. We will have eternal life but didn’t live life here on earth to the fullest. Delayed goals and progress kill us especially if there is something deep within that we desire to bring to life. The only way we can bring it to life is by having life. Secondly, asking God who brings life to bring it to life through us. God breathes into us as well breathes into our dreams to give it life. This is the exact moment we need to get God in the mix of our goal setting. We need to give it to Him! It is easily done and just be real. Say “God, I want to lose weight, so I can be more enthusiastic for you!” Or say “Lord, I want to be able to run a race to prove to others you will get us through life no matter the struggle!” Aim to set your goal for His glory then you will see it done through your individual life’s story. When you get God in the mix His power stirs and you will see progress made more effectively than ever before.
It’s time to end the new year resolution cycle of same old same old. This is possible because the old is gone and new is here! Also, it is time to put a stop to the same goals rolling over year after year. It is time to achieve because you finally believe! You have the same power that rose Jesus from the dead within you, resurrection power. It’s time to focus on the resurrection to work within us. Resurrection power is the power of the Holy Spirit. That very spirit that rose Jesus from the dead lies within you which means you have the power to take on the goals you set out and fully resourced to do it. Jesus was revived, so can your goals and dreams. Rely on Resurrection Power. We also have a sound mind to make sound decisions. The power of choice to continually chose to focus on your goal is necessary. Some goals might even take years such as book writing or business development. See true production being done in the name and power of Jesus. Then more people see how you did it and then you respond saying Jesus created the break through.
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8:11 NLT
Having faith and knowing you are loved will make you believe in yourself because Christ believes in you. Our intentionality births our reality. Use God’s Word and speak it into your goals and dreams. Pray over them daily and listen closely to His guidance. When God is in the mix anything is possible. Whatever your goal is small or big give to it God. Then do your part with diligence and determination daily (the next blog post will go into the process of goal setting). As humans we find joy in the journey. It’s the process that we feel we are making progress. Our very design is to pursue a purpose. That’s when we feel like we are living instead of purely existing day to day. I love how the New Year makes reflect and regroup. Reflect on the past and what to improve on. Then collect and gather all we need to go for it again. Remember goals don’t always have to be fitness related but majority are because deep down we know we should honor our bodies, so we have energy, enthusiasm, and stamina to serve for the greater good all resulting in living life to the fullest.
*Just for everyone to know I am not perfect. I fall short from time to time and I was a sinner. I sought out everything for me alone. But, God came in and everything is made new. We will still make mistakes and fall into sin again because this is a sinful world, but God’s grace covers it through the Blood of Christ. Our mission is to seek him through a relationship with Him not a complicated relationship. Jesus came to save sinners just like you and me. Jesus came to take out sin not the sinner.

Each year we seem to roll over the same goals. We all go through the same cycle. It is time to tackle those goals with proper accountability from His ability.
