Run and Walk for Wisdom

Mind

I have never been a big fan of running. After years of baseball and running for miles I thought it was meaningless. Then during finals week in college I would run to destress, because that is how I knew how to handle stress. It was a physical way to take out what I was feeling mentally. Sometimes my mind would race and I would run to calm my mind and sweat it out. Also, physically feel the burdens I carry be lifted and become more clear. Running has so many benefits, but particular the brain.

When we go for a walk or run. Our brain activates and fires more frequently. We feel more alive and aware of our surroundings. Putting us into the fullness of life going on around us. Plus, we get to sweat it out a bit releasing any toxins in the body. After we run or walk we become clear headed. When you run or walk outside you are also breathing in the fresh air. Absorbing the rays of the sunlight and feel recharge. It is also a time of self-reflection and guided direction. What we are experiencing is the full presence of God all around us. God is there with you at all times. He wants you to hear him out, but our mind races too much to hear. Running and walking will help you hear clearly. God can speak to you while you run and clear your head at the same time. You are literally running with the wise. This falls in line in proverbs. “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble” Proverbs 13:20. Go walk with the wise (God). See it as devotion time. Understand we carry burdens all the time and need to rid of them in a healthy way. After you run picture yourself running to the cross to have Jesus lift your burdens.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

The next time you feel stress go for a walk or run. I promise you will feel better and clear headed. All it takes is 10 min, so go 5 min in one direction then 5 min back. Then build upon that. Pray while you run or worship while you walk. Listen to music that lifts you up or sermons to pump you up. Either way, today can be a new day for you. All it takes is stepping just outside your comfort zone. One step is all you need. Step, breath, step, breath, and repeat. Develop a habit and find the best optimal times to go for a walk or run. Bring your family with you, but I reccomend be by yourself first. Then let it develop into a lifestyle.
