You can ask most of my friends and they will all say I like to talk about life. I was naturally interested in the big picture, positive learning experience, and problem solve with any life event. Then as I kept having conversations about life I began to be curious how the mind works and how people are driven to perform specific actions. That is how all of this began. Sometimes people would approach me and start asking me for advice. I would ask myself ‘How could I have advice for someone? I haven’t done much nor have I had enough life experience that could benefit’, but people would ask. So I began to just reflect on some basic questions. As I was reflecting I came across one of the biggest questions we ask often.
“What is the meaning to life?” Most believe the meaning is to be successful, which it is but there’s something deeper. Getting a job, marriage, and materialism is apart of life, but that is not our main purpose. There is something interwoven within our bodies that thirsts for something deeper. The meaning to have meaning, so the true meaning to life is to love. Love gives us meaning to others. This is not your ordinary love though. It’s a type of love we can emulate daily and that is sacrificial love. True sacrificial love is taking the time to sacrifice your time and support others. Our military is a prime example of sacrifice.
The Bible describes sacrificial love in John 3:16-17 "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him." This was true love. God sent Jesus here to be a living sacrifice for us. 1 John 3:16 also says “We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.”
It can be hard to grasp that someone cares that much for you, but it happened. That someone is also our Savior. After embracing this kind of love we can love on others and be there for them. Once we feel loved, which is the most critical part. Then we can love others and serve them with sacrificial love. Nothing compares to God’s unconditional love for us. He gave us meaning with His sacrificial love, so we can be meaningful to others. That’s the meaning of life is to love. Our job is to give meaning to others powered by sacrificial love. A person that loves others is a living inspiration for everyone.
There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. John 15:13.
Action steps:
1) Love God
-Take time for Him (Read and Pray)
2) Love yourself
-Take care of your Temple (Mind, Body, and Spirit)
3) Love others
-Encourage and give what you can (particularly your time and presence)
...
We question what our purpose and meaning here on earth is. The answer is simple, but the application can be challenging. Though, once we know we are loved then we will realize we are called to love.
